Canada’s first paperboard yogurt packaging

What is plastic neutral certified?

Think of it like carbon credits. We use and throw away more plastic than our planet can handle. Enter Plastic Credits, which help us supercharge innovation and channel instrumental financing towards tackling plastic waste, a dire need of the hour. Simpla has partnered with rePurpose Global to become Canada’s first verified plastic neutral yogurt company. One credit generated = One additional Kg of plastic waste avoided, recovered or recycled. It’s Simpla, We pay to offset any plastic we use. But even better than offsetting is reducing plastic in the first place. That’s why we are using paperboard packaging.

Plastic is not cool

We all know the consumer packaged goods industry has a plastic problem, and there is no perfect solution. But we are committed to minimize our environmental impact when it comes to packaging. We not only offset our plastic footprint through rePurpose Global, but we have also extensively searched worldwide to find the most sustainable packaging solution available for our yogurt. Our choice is FSC certified paperboard packaging, which incorporates a minimal layer of plastic to ensure the yogurt's safety & shelf-life. We are actively collaborating with our cup supplier to explore alternative lining options, with the ultimate goal of introducing a fully compostable cup in the near future. This innovative packaging approach marks the first of its kind in the Canadian yogurt category, significantly reducing the amount of plastic waste that ends up in landfills. In fact, we estimate an impressive 88% reduction in plastic compared to a similar 450g plastic yogurt container. We believe reducing overall plastic usage has the most impact on the planet, due to recycling rates being so low in Canada. Simpla Foods is dedicated to taking every possible measure to minimize the use of end-of-life plastics.
